Dedicated support

Clear communication is crucial, so a dedicated, friendly team member will personally keep in touch with you as our book designers, eBook formatters and cover artists transform your manuscript into a distribution-ready, quality book. Whenever you have a question, a real person is just an email away.

All you need in one place

You don't need to search for book layout professional, eBook formatter, cover designer, and web designer all over the place. Our team provides everything you need to turn your final manuscript into a high-quality eBook and paperback. A dedicated person oversees all parts of the project and keeps you updated.

Send us your manuscript in any format – no pre-formatting required

It doesn’t matter what program you have used to write your manuscript or how you have formatted it. Just send it to us and let us worry about the technicalities. We accept any file you have, including:

  • Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx, .wbk)
  • Scrivener (.scriv, .rtf, .rtfd)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • OpenOffice or LibreOffice (.odt)
  • WordPerfect (.wpd, .wp, .wp7, .wp6, .wp5)
  • Apple Pages (.pages)
  • InDesign (.indd)
  • PDF

There is no set of rules for what your text should look like, nor is there any need for formatting to be consistent – that's our job. Forget about manuscript formatting guidelines. Focus on the content and leave the presentation to us.

I was amazed at how easy Formatting Experts made the process.
Delena Epstein, author of “Second Chance” and 7 other novels
I cannot recommend Formatting Experts enough, they were simply brilliant.
Jeremy Chilvers, author of "Become Your Own Hero"
I’m blown away by Formatting Experts’ high standards.

Get distribution-ready eBook and print files for worldwide distribution

Formatting Experts work and customer service were exceptional. They were responsive and professional in all matters. My next book will be headed to them.
Edward Leach, author of "Extra Extra"
Formatting Experts do so much more than format your book. It was the best possible experience I could have had in getting my book published.
Denise Dugo, author of "Decade of Change"

We transform your manuscript into upload-ready Kindle, EPUB and Smashwords files, which will get your book into the hands of any eBook reader regardless of what device they use. Your book will look great on any device and you will be able to sell it with any retailer, including Amazon Kindle Store, Barnes & Noble NookPress, Smashwords, Apple iBookstore, Kobo and Scribd.

For print edition, we create distribution-ready interior PDF file that can be uploaded directly to KDP Print (formerly CreateSpace) and IngramSpark. With KDP Print, you get fast distribution to Amazon. With Ingram, you get direct access to US, UK and worldwide retailers, including Barnes & Noble, Book Depository, Waterstones, Chapters/Indigo, Blackwell’s, Wordery, Booktopia and dozens of sellers on popular book marketplaces online.

Your book deserves quality and attention

We respect you and your readers. This is why our eBooks are built from scratch by experienced eBook developers. Manually formatting your book results in a much higher quality book when compared to automated conversion. The absence of those annoying problems that are often associated with automated conversion means the text will look great on every device and your readers will be able to fully appreciate your words.

For print edition, we always use professional typesetting software to format your book carefully, instead of using word processors (which are great for writing, but not so much for book design). Our designers always use best practices and their experience to come up with the right trim size, fonts and layout for your book, so you don't need to think about it, but if you have any specific preferences regarding book size, fonts, headers, footers, pages numbers or layout then we can base our work on your specifications and make useful suggestions along the way. After seeing the interior file you can request any changes you feel necessary, ensuring that your book will look its best whether your book is pocket-sized, a trade paperback or hardcover limited edition for special occasions.

We care a lot about the immersive reading experience, which depends heavily on having an error-free text. This is why in addition to crafting a great-looking layout we also create a unique Quality Report for you, which indicates potential errors that authors, editors and proofreaders sometimes miss. This report lists a number of changes for you to consider making before we start formatting and is free of charge.

I am very pleased to offer my highest recommendation for the services of Formatting Experts for the work they have done on two editions of my book. They exhibited tremendous knowledge around book publishing, responding quickly, thoroughly, and patiently to all inquiries, and were generally a delight to work with. They are amazingly attentive to detail, responsive, and diligent. An outstanding team.
Andy Hines, author of "Thinking about the Future"
I rarely write testimonials but I made an exception in this case because of the outstanding service I received from Formatting Experts. I felt that they genuinely cared as well as going out of their way to provide high quality work. To say I am impressed with Formatting Experts is an understatement. They not only went above and beyond the call of duty, they also took all the stress out getting my book published.

Perfect eBook and paperback cover

As a first time author, I didn’t have a clue what to do about a cover for my novel. Formatting Experts took my idea and ran with it, producing a cover far more interesting than I could ever have imagined. They were easy to work with, timely in communication and extremely efficient. I heartily recommend their services for anyone interested in self-publishing!
Richard Todd, author of "Sitting Still"

“It was the cover that attracted me to this book, I think before I had even read the synopsis I knew I needed to read this book. I absolutely love this cover, and after reading Inky, I have to say it fits perfectly.”

“To be honest, the name of the book kinda put me off to buying it. But then I saw the cover!”

“When I first saw cover, I thought – WOW – what a beautiful and amazingly unique cover!”

Reviewers mentioning our cover for "Inky" by J.B. Hartnett

The cover design makes a big first impression – good or bad – on potential readers. In order to get them excited about your work, an eye-catching image needs to instantly grab their attention and convince them your book is just what they are looking for.

Our designers will create three initial designs based on the genre, target audience and description of your book. After your feedback, we will apply as many changes as needed to your chosen design to create a cover that will instantly resonate with your readers. If none of the initial designs appeal to you, we will continue to create completely new concepts until we come up with one you love.

Whether we create the perfect cover the first-time around, or whether we have to create seven completely different designs and make multiple revisions, you will always pay the same, fixed price. This includes everything, from our design work to any fees for images and fonts used in the design.

Our designers always strive to create the best concept for the cover of your book. Whether using your ideas and suggestions or whether you leave the entire creative process up to the designer, we will always come up with a cover that grabs the attention of your target audience.

In the unlikely event we don't deliver a cover you absolutely love, you won’t have to pay us for it.

We keep you on the safe side of copyright

Great cover design is a result of the combined effort of many creative people. There are photographers who shoot and retouch beautiful photos. There are font designers who spend weeks on developing unique fonts. Finally, there are designers who come up with the right vision and then find beautiful photos from skilled photographers, matching fonts and mix it all together to create high-quality, unique book covers.

All this work is protected by copyright law. We make sure all those creative people get the payment they deserve for their hard work and that the licensing of all the creative work used on the cover is clear and transparent.

We explicitly take legal responsibility for only using images and fonts cleared for commercial use. This means that sometimes we can’t use a particular image or font but it also means that you won’t lose any sleep worrying about copyright law.

I contacted two of your authors and received glowing reviews. Now I know why. You give more than technical support to your authors. And for novices like me with limited technical knowledge, this help is immeasurable. What appeared insurmountable turned into a task that I could manage.

Your assistance has been invaluable. Saying thank you isn’t enough for all you’ve done to help me, but I will say it anyway. Thank you so much for your kindness, expertise and keeping on top of all the issues regarding the books. Working with you has helped me stay focused on my writing goals in more ways than words can convey. Your team is awesome.

Perfect Hard Copy Guarantee

I sent my historical novel, PATRIOTS AND REBELS, to Formatting Experts upon the recommendation of someone in my writers' group for whom they had worked. It was the best decision of my writing career. They worked tirelessly to get both the text and the cover done exactly as I wanted it, and did not stop until I was entirely satisfied.

Even now, with the book in print, they continue to be available for consultation. Anyone who intends to publish a book would do well to entrust it to the experts at this company. They get an A+ in my book!

John C. Bush, author of "Patriots and Rebels"

Do-It-Yourself projects never have intimidated me until I tried to get my first novel’s manuscript ready to publish as paperback. For the second book I turned to Formatting Experts and they patiently led me through getting the look I wanted. They are quick to respond, willing to go the extra mile to get it right, and give good advice about the whole process.

Judy Rich, author of "Like a Fox"

We guarantee the files we create will not only be accepted by any Print-on-Demand provider of your choice, but will also be perfect when they are printed. This guarantee applies to both the interior and cover files.

The digital and print worlds are quite different. Things that look good on screen might be unsuitable for paper and vice versa. On top of that, PDF files don’t represent the actual properties of the book faithfully, such as size, margins or text sharpness and readability, nor they account for printing variance which is unique to physical format. While our book designers use their experience to make choices properly suited for print, you can only judge the final result of their work with the actual hard copy in hand.

In the unlikely event that your paperback doesn’t turn out perfect, regarding fonts, margins, text sizes or anything else, then we will promptly fix it and send you the updated interior file. We will also deduct any fees from the price of our services you end up paying for an additional proof copy as a result of our mistake. That includes printing, shipping and file revision fees that may be charged by Amazon and IngramSpark. We know that when it comes to a less than perfect hard copy of your paperback, it might be hard for you to tell whether something is a printing issue or file creation mistake. To avoid any doubt and having an author-friendly approach to everything we do, we take responsibility for everything that is an issue in your opinion.

Should you experience any problems with our eBook files, we will sort them out quickly as well.

Fair pricing with no hidden fees and easy payment

Our pricing is simple. Book design and formatting for novels always costs the same, and so does cover design for all books. Formatting for non-fiction books is priced based on the interior complexity. Once the book is formatted, we will send you a document where you can make any changes to the text, to apply early reader feedback or fix any issues with your manuscript that you missed originally, and then we will update formatted files without any extra charge. Layout changes are also free until you are completely satisfied with how your book looks.

We have been working with first-time indie authors for over 10 years, so we know that paying upfront for a quality service is not always easy. You have already paid for a good editor and you still need money to spend on marketing to successfully launch your book. This is why not only we do not ask for any upfront payment, but we also make it easier for your budget by allowing you to split the payment into several monthly installments. This way, you have the time to collect your book royalties before paying us the majority of our fee.

We also know life sometimes gets in a way, so if you can't make the payment in time, instead of dealing with banks, credit card companies and other financial services happy to charge you extra for the delay, simply let us know and we will re-schedule the remaining payments. We never take the money from your account or card automatically, so unless you authorize each installment manually, we won't get it.

My experience with Formatting Experts felt like working with a close friend. The project included cover design and formatting for four novels. The same project manager stayed with me throughout this process while communicating beautifully. Questions were answered quickly, intelligently and concisely with courtesy and tact. The service I received will bring me back to these professionals for future publication projects. I intend to recommend Formatting Experts to my friends and associates seeking a professional, reasonably priced and successful path to publication.

To take advantage of the $150 off (when you work with us for both the book formatting and cover design) or 10-installment payment option exclusive for ALLi authors, contact us by December 31st, 2022 and let us know you found us through the Alliance of Independent Authors. Manuscript submission deadline is June 1st, 2023.

1 SERIES AUTHORS: For your first book, we highly recommend starting the cover design process as early as possible, while you are still working on your manuscript. This will provide plenty of time to revise the design and make sure it's perfect. Additionally, having the cover ready before manuscript is ready is very helpful in setting the tone for the interior design. Once you send us your manuscript, we will deliver initial interior design options within about two weeks. Depending on your feedback, the process of producing the final interior design can be completed very quickly or take some time. Either way, once we have a final design approved by you, the final print and eBook interiors will be fully formatted within 2 weeks. For subsequent books, interiors will take up to 2 weeks to complete as we already have an interior design to work with.

You are under no obligation to use our team for book formatting and cover design for your future books, but your intention to publish more books in the future is a prerequisite that allows us to work on your book using the fully custom 'branded' design approach.

2 SINGLE BOOK PROJECTS: Unlike with series authors where we can discuss the project without seeing a manuscript, for single book projects we need to have either a full manuscript or a representative excerpt from it beforehand. This allows us to confirm with confidence that we will be able to work on it when it's ready for formatting and provide you with layout samples for print and eBook editions to choose from. We recommend starting the cover design process as early as possible, since it can take longer than the formatting. It can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to deliver the final interior files once we have your manuscript. (We prioritize first books in the series and books from authors who worked with us earlier over single book projects, so the time to format standalone book varies, but it will not exceed a month and we can confirm the final deadline once you contact us.)

3 LANDING PAGES AND WEBSITES: For each book we format we will create a custom landing page design, focused on driving desired results (mailing list sign-ups, book sales), integrated with an email marketing service, and we will host it for you forever on our distributed hosting (CDN), at no extra charge. We will also set up your author email inbox. The design and setup process is hassle-free for you (we do all the work), but you still keep control of your domain and website files if you ever decide to host it yourself. For non-fiction books, we can also create an additional "resources" page where you can share links, photographs and other bonuses with your readers. An example of such a free landing page can be seen here and here.

Each landing page has one page with one full-page section. If you need a full author website with multiple sections, pages, content management system, and advanced features, we would be happy to make it happen. The price for our full website design service is a one-time $900 fee with no recurring charges (hosting included) which can be split into up to 6 monthly installments. Examples of full author websites designed and hosted by us: Alex Dunlevy, Larry Vance, Jeffrey Buchanan, freely available online version of The Economics of Discontent by Jean-Michel Paul, David M. Goldenberg, Anthony Almato, Free Worlds of Humanity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Company, service, files

How are you different from other companies?

Real People – Real Contact. When it comes to book publishing, clear communication is just as important as technical expertise. We respect your time and provide direct answers to your questions, allowing you to focus on publishing your book without the frustration of an unresponsive support team that treats you like a "ticket" or an "account" instead of the creative human being you are.

We don’t charge you upfront. We believe that your satisfaction should come first and payment later. We don’t ask for payment for any of our services until you are 100% satisfied with our work. In the unlikely event that we don’t meet (or exceed) your expectations, you won't need to pay us. We also understand the challenges of being an indie author and launching your first book, so we give you an option to split the payment into easy installments. With our fixed pricing, you always know what you are going to pay.

We offer a full service. We provide everything you need to transform your final manuscript into commercial-quality paperback and eBook. We know the real-world differences between eBook and print formats and we don't treat one as a mere 'addition' to the other.

We care about your success. We know how challenging publishing and marketing your first book can be, so we provide extra resources and services at no extra charge to help you start on the right foot. This includes a free book landing page (and hosting) as well as book publishing courses based on our 11 years of experience in helping indie authors.

We care about quality. Our commitment to helping you publish a commercial-quality book you are proud of goes beyond manually developing eBook files without automated conversion tools, using only professional typesetting tools for interior page design instead of word processing software and crafting your book cover with attention to details. In addition to these services provided by our experienced team of formatters and designers, we also provide a unique Quality Report when you work with us for book formatting. You can use this report to fix any errors affecting the reading experience that may slip past your editor, proofreaders and beta readers. See this answer for details.

We are in it long-term. We have been helping authors publish quality books for over 11 years (since May 2012), so we are not going anywhere. Providing high-quality services is not only the right and fair thing to do, but it also means we give your book the best chance at finding the right readers, so it makes business sense for us. After all, we wouldn't be able to be in this business so long if it wasn't for your fellow authors returning to us with each one of their books.

How does the interior design and formatting process work for single and multi-book projects?

We take pride in the design quality of our print interiors, which we create in Adobe InDesign, not Word, so they are indistinguishable from traditionally published books. Take a look below to learn more about our quality assurance process, which applies to all projects. The difference between single books and series books is how we approach the interior design.

For the first book in a series, two different designers (often three) will work independently on the initial interior designs. Then, based on your feedback, they work with each other and with cover designers to provide a fully custom brand look that's consistent with your cover which will be used for your entire series. Interiors will often include decorative elements for scene transitions and chapters to completely immerse readers in your fictional world. We treat the first book in the series as an investment in your author career and we spare no expense to make sure it's the best it can be. After all, if your series makes readers happy, you are more likely to write and publish more, which means we can continue to support you in the future.

If you have only one book in you or are not sure if you will ever publish another one, creating a visual 'brand' indentity like this is not needed. We also couldn't provide such a service for single book projects at this price while maintaining the quality. So instead of lowering our standards or increasing our prices, we found a way to ensure your standalone book delights readers. Based on all the years creating interiors for authors, we have found out what works best for them and their readers. For single book projects, we provide a quality selection of interior designs to choose from which we then use to format your book to the same professional quality as we do for multi-book projects. We also provide free sample chapters so you can see how your book will look like with these different designs (in both the print and eBook format) before committing to hire us for you book. As each book is different, we make adjustments to your chosen interior style so it matches the structure of your book. While there is no extensive custom design like with books in a series, the same experienced professionals work on yours, so the end result is of the highest quality.

For eBooks, we use design elements from the final print interiors, while making sure the reflowable eBook works great on any device, at any screen size, and any text size or font selected by the reader. We have been formatting books for over 11 years, so we know the eBook formats inside and out which allows us to hand-craft them from the ground up, without being limited by an automated conversion or deficient export options from layout or writing software.

What file formats of manuscripts do you accept? Do I need to format my manuscript in a specific way?

We accept manuscripts in any file format and we do not require any pre-formatting or preparation. The most popular formats we receive are Microsoft Word (.doc, docx), InDesign (.indd) and PDF files.

When working on formatting, we prefer the following formats, in descending order:

  • Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx, .wbk)
  • OpenOffice or LibreOffice (.odt)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • Scrivener (.scriv, .rtf, .rtfd)
  • WordPerfect (.wpd, .wp, .wp7, .wp6, .wp5)
  • Apple Pages (.pages)
  • InDesign (.indd)
  • Markdown (.md)
  • LaTeX (.tex)
  • Plain text (.txt)
  • Quark
  • PDF

If the file format you have isn’t on this list, feel free to send us whatever file you have. We have never encountered a file format we couldn’t work with.

There is no set of rules for what your text should look like, nor is there any need for formatting to be consistent – that's our job. Forget about manuscript formatting style guides. Focus on the content and leave the presentation to us.

Will I receive access to your publishing courses or tutorials?

When you decide to work with us, you get instant and free access to our eBook Publishing 101 and Print Publishing 101 video courses, which are extensive, up-to-date resources, with everything you need to know to publish your book with Print-on-Demand and eBook platforms, so you can decide on the right strategy for your book without relying on outdated and incomplete information, misguided assumptions, or biased opinions. Free lifetime updates included. You will also receive detailed, step-by-step videos guiding you through the book set up process on KDP (paperback and eBook) and IngramSpark (paperback).

Can you design and host author website for me?

We know how important having your own website is for marketing your books and building an author platform. We also know how challenging, expensive and time-consuming it can be to set it up on your own. Finding a web designer, choosing your hosting, installing updates, worrying whether your host can handle the traffic: it's not something you want to deal with. This is why for every book or series we format we also design a professional, responsive landing page and host it for you forever on our fast distributed hosting.

The best part? It's included with our service at no extra charge and does not require any time commitment from you: we use your cover design and your blurb to set it up so all you need to do is tell us how much you love it.

Each landing page features one full-page section which can include your book cover, blurb, purchase links, and/or your email list newsletter form (integrated with a service like MailChimp or MailerLite) so you can grow your email list, connect with your readers and sell books. We will also set up your author email inbox at no charge, so you can receive emails to your website address without any recurring charges.

Book or author landing page is provided at no extra charge. If you need a full author website with multiple sections, pages, content management system, and advanced features, you can use our author website design service. If you are not sure what the differences are or which one of these two services is a better fit for your needs, just let us know.

Will you set up book distribution for me?

In addition to our book publishing courses you will also receive step-by-step book setup (upload) video tutorials, so you can upload your book to KDP (eBook, paperback) and IngramSpark (paperback, hardcover) confidently. If you experience any issues with the files or the process, we will always help you troubleshoot at no charge.

We strongly encourage you to go through the upload process yourself at least once, so you can be really independent when publishing your book. However, if you struggle with the process or simply can't be bothered, we can handle it all for you. Either way your book will always be set up under your own publishing accounts so you always keep full control of your books.

For series authors, we can take care of the upload at no extra charge. For single book projects, we charge a nominal fee to cover the extra work required.

I already have a cover. Can I use your team for the interior (formatting)?

Working with us for both your cover design and interior design helps ensure the consistency across the outside and inside of your book. It also makes the process easier, as we have easy access to all the files, so the interior and cover designers on the team can seamlessly work together. The majority of the authors we have worked with for the past 11 years choose our team for both their covers and interiors.

However, we know that there are cases where you would like to use a cover created by someone else. This is why we list prices for cover design separately.

One example of where you might not need us to design a cover for you is if you had it already done before you found us. Or you decide to work with an illustrator or a designer who is well-known in your genre, like sci-fi, or romance, and are happy with what they created. If that's what you believe is best for your book, then we are happy to work only on your interior and communicate with your cover designer as needed to make sure the interior is the best it can be.

In fact, one of the most prolific (30 books and counting!) authors we had a pleasure to work with (a father and daughter team, actually) have chosen their cover designer early on, before they contacted us about formatting, and we co-operate with him to improve our interiors ever since the very first book way back in 2014.

If the cover designer you chose can create an amazing custom art but they specialize in digital mediums and either have no experience with preparing their work for print or working with Print-on-Demand companies like Amazon's KDP or IngramSpark specifically, we can help! They might also enjoy the creative process but they consider the printers' requirements a pain to meet, so they charge way too much for it. Either way, we can help.

We have worked on quite a few projects where we used the files for the front-only cover to create an amazing print-ready cover files that work perfectly with Print-on-Demand.

What does "file-related support" mean?

Whether we work on your entire series or a single book, we will always provide the support you need to use the files we create. So whether your eBook file is rejected by a retailer or you have an issue with opening a print file in your PDF viewer, we will be there to help you.

If any communication with retailers or distributors is required to fix an issue with the file, we will write emails that you can send to their support or we can communicate directly with them on your behalf, with your permission, for a quicker resolution.

Quality and guarantees

What about your quality assurance process?

We create print interiors in Adobe InDesign which is the same software used by traditional publishers. In addition to designing a great-looking interiors and using our experience to prevent common issues that many formatters do not pay attention to, we also do a lot of work in addition to what you might think of as 'formatting'.

Some of that extra work comes from carefully looking over each paragraph and applying manual adjustments to ensure the text flow and page breaks provide the best reading experience possible. Think short lines, widows, orphans, one-line pages and all that you usually see in books that weren't properly formatted by a professional.

We call this process a 'final polish' and it's done by a different team member than the 'base' formatting itself. The file is then checked by yet another team member, so you can be sure the final file you receive is as perfect as it gets.

We do all of it in a way that is 'invisible' to your readers: which is how great interior should be. Your readers will simply enjoy and appreciate your book without knowing what it is specifically that makes it look so good.

What is a “100% Satisfaction Guarantee”

We know that you will be happy with our team’s expertise, quality of our work and friendly support along the way. Once we are finished, you will be proud to present the finished book to your readers. In the unlikely event that you are not completely satisfied with anything we do, and we can’t make it right, you won't need to pay us at all. This guarantee applies to all our services.

And because we do not charge you anything upfront, you can be sure you have a book you are proud of, in your hands, before paying us for the work we have done.

What is a "Quality Guarantee"?

We take pride in the quality of the files we create. Our eBook files are ‘hand-crafted’ by experienced eBook developers: we do not use automated conversion software or a word processor's export options. For paperback layout, we use professional typesetting software meant for commercial book production, not Microsoft Word or PDF export options from other office suites.

We guarantee that our eBook files will be accepted by all retailers and distributors that support EPUB files and our Kindle files will be accepted by Amazon. We also guarantee that our print files will be accepted by KDP Print and IngramSpark and will be flawless when printed by them.

Should any file (eBook or print) be rejected by a retailer, distributor or printer, or a hard copy of your book not look flawless when printed, we will quickly fix any issues. If any communication with retailers or distributors is required to fix the issue, we will write emails that you can send to their support or we can communicate directly with them on your behalf, with your permission, for a quicker resolution.

We want you to know that you will never pay for our mistakes. In the unlikely event of any issues, we will reimburse you for any fees that a retailer or distributor charges you as a result of our mistakes. That includes single proof copy printing costs and shipping, as well as file revision fees that are charged by some distributors, such as IngramSpark. We will deduct those fees from the price of our services, up to a total price of those services. If you have paid us before discovering the issue, we will refund you those fees, up to the total amount you paid us.

We know that when it comes to a less than perfect hard copy of your paperback, it might be hard for you tell whether something is a printing issue or file creation mistake. To avoid any doubt and having an author-friendly approach to everything we do, we take responsibility for everything that is an issue in your opinion.

What is a "Perfect Cover Guarantee"?

We guarantee that we either come up with a cover that you love or you won't have to pay us for it. It's that simple.

We also guarantee that all files we create will be accepted by retailers and distributors of your choice and that your paperback cover will look perfect after being printed by Print-on-Demand companies. If your book cover turns out less than perfect and you have to pay for additional proof copies or file revisions, we will promptly fix the mistake, as well as deduct any fees you have to pay the distributor as a result, up to the total price of our services.

What is a "Quality Report"?

Since 2012, we have worked on hundreds of books. Thanks to this, we have been able to determine the most common types of errors that appear in manuscripts. They are the types of errors that often slip past editors, proofreaders and beta readers, but can spoil the experience of your future readers.

For this reason, we will put together a list of those common issues in your manuscript prior to formatting your book. Issues that appear most frequently are missing, superfluous or incorrect quotation marks, improper punctuation or lack of it, incorrect use of spaces or lack of spaces where they are needed and repeated words. While those errors are not as important as a broken plot or poor character development, they can negatively impact reader engagement.

After detecting any potential issues we will send you the list as a separate document, allowing you to make any changes you feel necessary to your manuscript.

Pricing and payment

Do you require any upfront payment for your services?

We offer all our services without any upfront payment. We only ask you to pay when you are 100% satisfied with our services.

In the unlikely event that you are not happy with our work, being it files that we create, or support provided along the way, and we can't make it right, you are under no obligation to pay us. The same principle applies to cover design: if we can't come up with the perfect cover design, you won’t have to pay us for it.

What payment methods are accepted? Can I receive invoices for your services? Do you charge VAT?

Methods of payment

We accept PayPal payments in all major currencies, including USD, GBP, EUR, CAD and AUD. It is easy and secure to use. You can use both credit and debit cards with PayPal, as well as fund your account with a local bank transfer.

If you live in Europe, we can accept SEPA transfers to our EUR account.

We also have bank accounts in several countries in the local currency, including a London-based account that can accept GBP transfers and New York account which can accept USD transfers.

Currencies

You can pay us in any currency of your choice. If you would like to pay us in a different currency than listed in the pricing table, let us know. We calculate the price in your chosen currency by using the mid-market exchange rate at the time of the quote or at the time of the payment, depending on your preference.

Invoices

We can issue you a PDF invoice for our services. If you are based in Europe, we issue a VAT invoice.

In most countries, you can use the price of professional book publishing services as a business expense to reduce your payable income tax if you are sole trader or a have a registered business.

VAT for European customers

Our company is based and registered in Poland. We are obligated by law to add 23% VAT to the price of all our services for all customers living in European Union that are not a company or sole trader. If you are a EU company, we will issue a “reverse charge” VAT invoice for our services. You may be required by the law of your country to account for this transaction in your VAT declaration.

Do you offer discounts for multiple books or bulk pricing?

If you plan to publish multiple titles in a short amount of time or have a sizeable backlist that you plan to gradually release, please let us know and we will discuss what we can do for you.

Including the following information will help us provide you with a prompt and accurate quote:

  • How many books do you plan to publish and what is the estimated timeframe for releasing them?
  • Are those books fiction, non-fiction or both?
  • Which services do you need?

If you plan to write, format and release a book every several months rather than all at once, our standard pricing for series authors applies, but we might be able to offer additional discounts.

Do I need to pay extra for stock photos or fonts used on the cover design?

The fixed price you pay for the cover design includes all the costs required to create your book cover: design work, stock photo images and licensing of fonts used. You will never have to pay any additional fees.

Distribution

What is IngramSpark? Why should I use a second distributor for my paperback?

IngramSpark is a Print-on-Demand printer and distributor that you can use alongside KDP Print (formerly CreateSpace) to maximize your paperback distribution reach and royalties outside Amazon without affecting your Amazon distribution. For example, the same copy of your paperback sold by Barnes & Noble on their website can earn you twelve times more if you print and distribute with IngramSpark, when compared to KDP Print Expanded Distribution.

IngramSpark also offers other benefits, whether you want to distribute your book to all print retailers or sell it exclusively on Amazon, such as:

  • the ease to set up paperback pre-orders on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Book Depository, Chapters/Indigo and beyond
  • the ability to earn 25-50% higher royalties for copies sold on Amazon.com
  • the option to publish and distribute a hardcover edition using Print-on-Demand model with far better compensation that with Amazon's KDP (beta) hardback option
  • the possibility to publish very short and extremely long books, beyond page counts supported by KDP
  • the option to publish affordable full-color books with far better royalties than possible with KDP, including hardback full-color books and illustrated children's books in 11"x8.5" landscape format

When you decide to work with our team for your book interior, you will receive complimentary access to Print-on-Demand 101 course which provides all the information you need to use IngramSpark to maximize your print distribution.
